The Vets on Crown Team, located 1.5km away from Paddington.

A Full Service clinic you can count on.

If you're running your dog in Centennial Park four times a week, or you've adopted a rescue with an incomplete history, or you've just been told your cat needs a $2,400 procedure and something about the recommendation didn't sit right — those are the reasons Paddington clients end up at Vets on Crown. The clinic is 1.5km west of Five Ways, reachable via Oxford Street and Crown Street. Dr Nima founded it in 2017. Most appointments run 20 to 30 minutes, and second opinions are a normal part of the week here, not an awkward one.

How Paddington pet owners benefit

Built for active dogs

A lot of our Paddington patients are running four to six kilometres a day off-leash at Centennial Park. That means we see more cruciate ligament issues, iliopsoas strains, pad injuries and early arthritis than clinics a few suburbs over. Joint supplements are considered on evidence, not defaulted to. Imaging is available onsite for the cases where it's warranted — and skipped for the cases where it isn't.

Second opinions welcome — bring your referral, your imaging, your questions

Second opinions are something that should be valued . If another clinic has recommended surgery, a long-term medication, or a procedure priced over a thousand dollars and you want another set of eyes — that's a normal reason to book. Bring the referral letter, the imaging files, and the questions. The consult will walk through what the previous vet found, whether the recommendation stands up, and what the alternatives are if it doesn't.

No upsell. Only services you actually need

Prescription diet only gets recommended if the condition calls for it. Dental work gets recommended when the teeth warrant it, not on an annual schedule. Joint supplements, CBD, anxiety products and boutique flea treatments don't get added to the invoice unless you asked about them first. For Paddington residents who've spent enough time in boutique shops to recognise the feeling of being sold to — the vet clinic isn't supposed to be another one of those.

Comfortable with dogs whose last vet visit didn't go well

Rescue dogs, dogs adopted as adults, and dogs who've had a rough time at another clinic often arrive already shut down before the consult starts. Flag it at booking — a longer slot gets allocated, and the first visit is usually about the dog meeting the room without any handling pressure. Treats on the floor, no lead tension, sometimes no examination at all on day one. The goal is the second visit being easier than the first, and the tenth being uneventful.

Genuinely cannot say enough great things about this vet. My dog Winnie is 5, has always be a poorly dog and now has diabetes. After moving i now drive to Vets on Crown, as the vet in my new suburb wasn't the same standard. Yes they are not the cheapest (you'll need to go out west for that) but they are far cheaper than others in the area. Having been at the vets A LOT, i have encountered nearly all vets/nurses/receptionists and everyone is always lovely/genuinely accomodating to your needs. When costs got high they always go directly through my insurance (often very last minute), always call with updates, offer me options, never pressure me to get further testing and offer me options around my budget. They are always on the end of the phone, call to check in and i'm 100% confident in the care Winnie has received. They are a busy vet and have always made time to see Winnie (again often last minute). As someone that has unfortunately been at this vets for weeks at a time with a very poorly pup, and spent a fair bit of $$$, i truly advocate for them and their care.

Getting Here from Redfern

  • Walking: ~25–30 minutes from Five Ways via Oxford Street. Pleasant walk with a well-behaved dog, less so with a pet in a carrier.
  • Bus: the 333 and 440 routes run along Oxford Street — get off at Taylor Square, then a 12-minute walk south down Crown Street.
  • Driving: ~5–7 minutes depending on Oxford Street traffic. Metered street parking near 537 Crown St.
  • Light rail: not a direct option from most of Paddington — bus or car is faster.

Tailored for Paddington pets

Most Paddington patients arrive with pet insurance already in place. That shapes how conversations about workup and treatment go — itemised estimates are provided as standard, claim forms are completed at the clinic, and the difference between what's covered pre-existing-condition-free and what isn't gets explained before you're asked to authorise anything.

For Paddington households with two or more pets, combined-appointment slots are bookable. Two dogs in one visit, or the dog and the cat together if the cat tolerates it. Reception can allocate the right slot if you mention it at booking.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Vets on Crown from Paddington?

About 1.5km west of Five Ways via Oxford Street and Crown Street — 5 to 7 minutes driving, 12 minutes from Taylor Square on the 333 or 440 bus, or a 25–30 minute walk.

Can I bring imaging or a referral letter from another vet for a second opinion?

Yes. Bring the referral letter and any imaging files — X-rays, ultrasound, blood results. The consult will walk through what the previous vet found, whether the recommendation stands up, and what the alternatives are if it doesn't. Flag at booking that it's a second opinion so reception allocates extra time.

My dog does serious kilometres at Centennial Park — do you handle sports injuries?

Yes. Cruciate ligament issues, iliopsoas strains, pad injuries and early arthritis are a regular part of the caseload here. X-ray and ultrasound are available onsite. For cases that need orthopaedic surgery, we refer to a specialist surgeon.

Will I be pushed toward prescription diets or joint supplements I don't need?

No. Prescription diets are recommended when a condition calls for them, not by default. Same for joint supplements and behavioural products. You'll get a written estimate before any procedure and a call if costs change mid-treatment.

I've got a rescue dog who hates the vet — can you work with that?

Yes. Flag it at booking so reception can allocate a longer slot. First visits for anxious or traumatised dogs are often meet-and-greets with no handling — treats on the floor, no examination if the dog isn't ready. The goal is the second visit being easier than the first.

Where do I go for after-hours emergencies?

Vets on Crown is not a 24/7 hospital. From Paddington, the closest overnight options are SASH Alexandria (~8 minutes by car) and the Animal Referral Hospital in Homebush (~20 minutes by car). Save both numbers before you need them.

Thank you! We have received your question and will get back asap! 😊

The Vets on Crown Team, located 5 minutes away from Redfern.

Whenever you are available, we are ready.

If you adopted from a rescue and the paperwork is patchy, or if you just want to know what something costs before you agree to it — that's a normal conversation at this clinic. Vets on Crown is about 800 metres from Redfern Station, roughly a five-minute walk up Redfern Street and across Cleveland. Dr Nima opened the clinic in 2017, and weekend hours run a full day — not a reduced Saturday morning. Prices are published, written estimates go out before any procedure, and the price doesn't change mid-treatment without a phone call first.

Redfern pet owners, these are our commitments:

Rescues, rehomes and "whose dog is this now" paperwork

A lot of Redfern pets arrive with a microchip under someone else's name, a foster carer's phone number on the records, and a vaccination history that stops mid-2023. That's a normal consult here. Microchip transfers, catching up on vaccines without starting the schedule over, and working out what's actually been done when the paperwork is patchy — this is routine, not a problem. First visit is longer so we can go through what you know and what you don't.

You'll know the cost before the work starts

Consults from A$98, puppy vaccinations from A$119, dental with full X-rays from A$670 — prices are on the website before you walk in. For anything bigger, a written estimate goes out before any procedure begins. If costs look like they're going to change during treatment, you'll get a phone call first — you're not agreeing to an open-ended bill.

Full weekend service, not just a consult

Saturdays and Sundays run 10am to 4pm — full service, not a reduced Saturday-morning setup. Dental work, surgery consults, follow-ups, new patients — same range of care as a weekday. For Redfern residents who work through the week (hospitality at nearby venues, shift work at RPA, tech roles with no WFH Fridays), a weekend appointment isn't a trade-off.

Five minutes from Redfern Station

About 800 metres from the station — up Redfern Street, across Cleveland, onto Crown. Five to seven minutes on foot with a cat carrier. For Redfern residents who don't drive (plenty don't), the clinic is closer on foot than it is by Uber in traffic. Bus, bike, or on foot — all work.

Getting Here from Redfern

  • Walking from Redfern Station: ~5–7 minutes. Up Redfern Street, left on Cleveland, right on Crown. About 800 metres.
  • Bus: the 308 and 343 routes run along Cleveland and Crown Streets — check transportnsw.info for the nearest stop.
  • Bike: dedicated cycleway on Wilson Street connects through to the Crown Street end.
  • Driving: ~3 minutes via Cleveland Street. Metered street parking on Crown and surrounds.

The pets of Redfern

A lot of our Redfern patients came from Sydney Dogs and Cats Home, or were taken in off the street by a neighbour who couldn't walk past. That mix — rescues, rehomes and foster-to-adopts — is probably the single most common background story we hear at a first consult here.

For renters and share-house residents dealing with a pet that's technically on the lease of a housemate who's now moved out: bring whatever records you have, and we'll work out the rest together. Custody-of-the-dog paperwork isn't something we can sort out, but vaccination gaps and microchip transfers are.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Vets on Crown from Redfern Station?

About 800 metres on foot — up Redfern Street, left on Cleveland, right on Crown. Five to seven minutes with a pet carrier.

I just adopted and the paperwork is incomplete — can you still see my pet?

Yes. Bring whatever records you have (vaccination certificates, microchip number, adoption paperwork, foster carer contact) and we'll work out what's been done and what hasn't. Catch-up vaccinations don't usually require restarting the whole schedule.

Will I get a written estimate before you do any work?

Yes. Consultations have published prices on our website. For anything requiring a procedure, you'll get a written estimate before treatment begins. If costs look like they'll change during treatment, we call you before we proceed — you're not agreeing to an open-ended bill.

Do you run full service on weekends, or just quick consults?

Weekends run 10am–4pm, Saturday and Sunday. It's a full-day service — same booking types as weekdays. Public holidays same hours.

Can you transfer a microchip registration to my name?

Yes, during your pet's first visit we can lodge the microchip registry transfer on your behalf. Bring your adoption or transfer paperwork, your ID, and the previous owner's details if you have them.

Where do I go for after-hours emergencies?

Vets on Crown is not a 24/7 hospital. From Darlinghurst, the closest overnight options are SASH Alexandria (~6 minutes by car) and the Sydney University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Camperdown (~5 minutes by car). Save both numbers before you need them.

Thank you! We have received your question and will get back asap! 😊
