The Vets on Crown Team, located 1km away from Darlinghurst.

Vets on Crown is just a street away from Darlinghurst

If you've taken your pet to three different locums in the past six months, or you've had to re-tell their full medical history every time you walk in — that's not normal, even if it's common. Vets on Crown is 1km south down Crown Street, about 12 minutes on foot from Taylor Square. Dr Nima founded the clinic at 537 Crown St in 2017 and still sees patients every day the clinic is open. Most of our Darlinghurst clients see the same vet from their pet's first puppy visit through to their last.

Why Darlinghurst pet owners switch to us

Built for apartment pets

Most of our Darlinghurst patients are cavoodles, dachshunds, frenchies and indoor cats. That shapes the medicine — small-breed dental disease gets flagged earlier, and indoor cats get screened for the urinary and weight-related issues outdoor cats rarely present with. The cat-only consult zone has calming pheromones, so the cat you can barely wrestle into the carrier isn't also the one who hides under the bed for three days afterwards.

Each question is golden

A standard consultation here runs 20 to 30 minutes, not 10. That's long enough to walk through blood results, weigh up three treatment options instead of one, and answer the questions you'd already written down in Notes on the way in.

Same team, same clinic, same phone number

Nine years in the same spot on Crown Street. Dr Nima founded the clinic in 2017 and still consults most weekdays — if your dog saw him last year, he'll remember. For Darlinghurst residents who've watched three cafés and a bookshop turn over on the same block, a vet clinic that's still the same vet clinic matters.

Protocols for nervous pets

If the carrier takes two humans and a towel, tell reception when you book. Longer slot, quiet consult room, no waiting among six other dogs — and if handling is going to make things worse, we stop and talk through options instead of pushing through.

Genuinely cannot say enough great things about this vet. My dog Winnie is 5, has always be a poorly dog and now has diabetes. After moving i now drive to Vets on Crown, as the vet in my new suburb wasn't the same standard. Yes they are not the cheapest (you'll need to go out west for that) but they are far cheaper than others in the area. Having been at the vets A LOT, i have encountered nearly all vets/nurses/receptionists and everyone is always lovely/genuinely accomodating to your needs. When costs got high they always go directly through my insurance (often very last minute), always call with updates, offer me options, never pressure me to get further testing and offer me options around my budget. They are always on the end of the phone, call to check in and i'm 100% confident in the care Winnie has received. They are a busy vet and have always made time to see Winnie (again often last minute). As someone that has unfortunately been at this vets for weeks at a time with a very poorly pup, and spent a fair bit of $$$, i truly advocate for them and their care.

We had an emergency with our dog on a Sunday afternoon and this was one of the few places open. The staff were very professional and friendly and they gave Paddy the best attention and they even stayed until passed the closing time. Thanks Vets on Crown!

My lucky had his puppy school here, and he’s been on the day care casually. He loves the staff! Thank you

Took my puppy after he had been having gastro issues on and off. Previous vet treated him with antibiotics but did not run a secondary test afterwards to see if it had cleared as they thought it wouldn’t be necessary. Well, he got sick again and that’s when I took him to Vets on Crown who did fecal test which came back with not only the same bug he had before but another 2! After 17 days on antibiotics followed by repeat tests it is now cleared

I can’t recommend this vet clinic enough! My cat was very sick, and they took amazing care of her for a week, she came back completely healthy. The doctors and staff are so kind and professional. Even though I live over an hour away, I always make the drive because I know my cat is in the best hands here.

Have been trying to find a good inner-city vet for years. Vets on Crown are fantastic. Everyone from the vets to the office staff are so lovely, kind and caring AND they're fees are not outrageous - highly recommended.

My dog came in with a fractured tooth and the lovely team here were able to extract it on the same day. Emily was the veterinarian who did my dog’s procedure and during our conversation I had complete trust because of her honesty and genuine care about my dog’s wellbeing. Unlike other vets I’ve been to, she did not try to push unnecessary charges/medication and explained all the costs involved. The lady at reception is lovely and it’s such a bonus when you walk in on your dog being showered with affection from the nurse. The clinic here is very spacious and facilities seemed modern in comparison to others. The price was also very reasonable. This isn’t my usual vet, however I will be switching. Thanks for the wonderful service!

Popular with Darlinghurst pet owners

For long-term Darlinghurst residents whose dog or cat is now 12 or 13, geriatric care is a substantial part of the day-to-day work here: arthritis management, kidney monitoring, dental work appropriate for older patients, and the harder conversations about quality of life when they need to happen.
For first-time pet owners and newer residents around Oxford Street and Victoria Street — puppy school runs on-site, and you'll be walked through the vaccination schedule in person rather than handed a printout.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Vets on Crown from Darlinghurst?

About 1km south down Crown Street — 12 minutes on foot from Taylor Square, or 4 minutes by car.

My cat hates the vet — can you handle anxious pets?

Yes. Flag it when you book so reception can allocate a longer slot and a quiet consult room. The cat-only zone has calming pheromones, and we work slowly enough that the pet isn't being pinned down to get through the appointment. If handling is making things worse, we stop and talk through options rather than push through.

Do you accept walk-in emergencies from Darlinghurst?

Yes, during business hours (Mon–Fri 7:30am–8pm, Sat/Sun 10am–4pm). Call (02) 9133 1300 first if you can, so we can triage before you arrive.

Will I see the same vet each time?

If you ask for a specific vet at booking, yes. Dr Nima has been consulting here since he founded the clinic in 2017, and most of our vets have been on the team for years. Even if your regular vet isn't in that day, the whole team works out of one physical clinic and shares notes on every patient — so whoever you see will know your pet's history.

Do you handle older pets — kidney disease, arthritis, end-of-life care?

Yes. Geriatric medicine is a substantial part of day-to-day work here. We handle ongoing monitoring, pain management, and quality-of-life conversations. If home euthanasia is the right option, we can refer to a colleague who provides this in the Darlinghurst area.

Where do I go for after-hours emergencies?

Vets on Crown is not a 24/7 hospital. From Darlinghurst, the closest overnight options are SASH Alexandria (~10 minutes by car) and the Sydney University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Camperdown (~12 minutes by car). Save both numbers before you need them.
