When imaging helps
Imaging lets us see beyond the exam. X-rays are ideal for bones, joints and chest views. Ultrasound shows soft tissues in motion and helps us assess organs in real time. Used together, these tools answer questions quickly and safely.
Common applications include:
- Lameness or suspected fracture
- Cough, heart murmurs or breathing changes
- Vomiting, diarrheoa, abdominal pain or urinary problems
- Pregnancy checks and complications
- Monitoring known conditions
What happens on the day
We use calm handling and low-stress positioning. Sedation is used only when it will improve safety or image quality. For ultrasound, a small area is shaved and gel is applied to allow sound waves to pass. You receive same-day explanations and a copy of the plan. Complex cases may be reviewed by a specialist radiologist.
Preparation and aftercare
Fasting is sometimes needed for abdominal ultrasound. We will advise when to withhold food. Water is usually fine. Most pets go home straight after imaging. If sedation was used, they rest quietly for the remainder of the day.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. It uses sound waves, not radiation.
They are excellent for bones and lungs. Soft tissues are better assessed with ultrasound.
Many answers are same day. When a specialist reads the images, we call as soon as the report arrives.
